Kimjang (Winter Kimchi-Making) Sharing Event

The Kimjang Sharing Event was carried out with great success.
In North Korea, kimjang kimchi has long been referred to as
“a year’s farming” and “a year’s supply of food”,
showing just how deeply meaningful kimjang truly is.

So significant was this tradition that every November,
all institutions were fully mobilized,
loading Chinese cabbage and radishes onto 10-ton trucks
and distributing them house to house.
Each household would prepare over one ton of kimchi,
burying it underground—
and when eaten later, the taste was said to be so profound
that it was beyond words.

Even now, memories remain vivid—
reaching into the buried earthen jars with numb, frozen hands,
then rushing outside with hot water
to thaw them before scooping out the kimchi.
These moments have become unforgettable memories of home,
etched deeply in the heart.

This event once again became an opportunity to demonstrate
the unity and collective strength of the
North Korea Refugees Human Rights Association
through the sharing of kimjang kimchi.

The kimchi—made North Korean–style,
with pollock (dongtae) added to the seasoning
received overwhelming praise for being especially rich and delicious.

Behind every step of this process lies
the dedicated and selfless efforts of Chairman Kim Yong-hwa,
as well as the generous support of
Chairman Park Jong-ho, Professor Kim Byung-ae, Mr. Shin Chi-ho,
and many organizations and churches
who offered their donations, care, and attention.

We extend our sincere gratitude
to all supporters, partners, and members
who made this meaningful event possible.
